Are You Ready for Eternity?

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." -2 Cor 5:10 (KJV)

Have you ever considered that your life will end one day perhaps unexpectedly? Just recently we read about a vehicle being hit at a railroad crossing by an oncoming train and then dragged quite a distance. The driver of the vehicle and several people in the train died. Would it be safe to say that those souls didn't think that their lives would be required of them that day? Most likely death never entered their thoughts… And what about thinking about eternity, were their thoughts on this or more so on what they were going to do when they reached their destinations?

There is a plethora of activities, events, that combine to distract us every day away from thinking about God and His Son Jesus Christ. We seem to be in constant motion running here and there; our lives are like being in the fast food line. We hurry to do this or that, shopping, work, fun, and yes, even attending church. Days before the Super Bowl, I saw a sign hanging in front of a church that read something like this – "Come on in, service at 10am, and we'll have you out in plenty of time for the game". Is this the attitude of our faith these days? Has sports become so important that the worship of God takes a back seat to a football game or baseball or any sport or 'other' activity? We flock in droves to position ourselves in front of the 'tube' with our full focus on this game … and others. But how much attention or focus do we give to Almighty God? Does He fill our thoughts? Do we know Him? I am sure this type of declaration on Super Bowl day was proclaimed in many of the Christian churches across our land. Perhaps not in the form of a sign outside a church but more likely in the form of comments from the pulpit. I don't want to comment on the decreasing spirituality of our Christian clergy today for we know it is in steep decline. I am more interested in the thought that every Christian should have every day of their lives and that is – "I will stand before Yahweh God when I die, I will face the judgment seat of Christ so am I ready?".

 "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." -Rom 14:12 (KJV)

So are you ready to face God when you pass from this life into eternity? Have you even thought about it? If not, why not? It's a sobering and stark reality that one day each one of us will die and enter the door of heaven and Christ's eternal rest for those that know and follow Christ according to His word and hell for the unbelievers: skeptics, mockers, agnostics, atheists, and anyone else not confessing and believing that Christ died for their sins and was raised to life by His Father, Almighty God. There is nothing, absolutely nothing more important to anyone than the path they are on here in this life and their destination once they enter eternity. Many will mock and scoff at this and that's their prerogative.  Just remember that there are no 're-dos' once you die, no coming back for a do-over. No saying "Oops, I made a mistake, send me back". Just read the account of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. If your eyes aren't ratcheted wide opened to this account can I suggest you are spiritually lost and need Christ ASAP! Please give this some serious introspective thought and deep consideration. We are not in charge of our lives, we don't have the 'game plan' for how long we live. We have absolutely no assurances that we will be alive by this evening so therefore, we must be ready to meet the Lord at anytime. Our lives are like a vapor – here one minute, gone the next. Have you thought about this?  

"Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that." -James 4:13-15 (KJV)

My prayer this morning via this message is that it will awaken you to the very presence of a heaven and a hell, the final resting place of your soul once this life is over. We will all face this, no one will escape. But there is hope for those that are in a quandary concerning if there really is a heaven and hell or for that matter a Supreme Being called Yahweh God or more commonly Almighty God. And that hope resides in your claim through a profession of faith and trust that Christ died for your sins and rose again by the Father's hand. After that confession of your sin and repentance is required – turning from your past lifestyle of sin and beginning a new life in Him – 2 Cor 5:17; Gal 2:20. And according to scripture here's a brief glimpse of what the new heaven and earth will be like – the new Jerusalem. And also in Rev 22:3-9.

"And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." – Rev 21:18-27 (KJV)
