We Must Face Our Sin Head-on

The Deceitfulness of Sin

“But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” -Heb 3:13 (KJV)

We must face our sin especially now in a world full of deception from “fake news” to fake politicians to fake preachers. Sin knows no limits and is taking people through the full gauntlet of trickery and deceit. Friends, we must face our sin and do something about it. We must face it before a Holy and Righteous God. If we don’t – if we continue on playing with the things of God as though they do not matter, of marginalizing our sin and avoiding serious repentance we will lock in our eternal destination of separation from God in … hell.

Yes, mighty tough words but were do you hear them today? You see the Devil isn’t playing games; he knows how to deceive those that are really not following and practicing a Godly lifestyle. He wants your soul and knows what to do to trick you into believing lies. This is not a drill! There is a war going on for our souls and we must know this and what to do about it.

“Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me..” -Heb 3:15 (NASB)

It’s time to stop playing in this world and get serious about the things of God! Time to stop with Facebook (I wonder of those that call themselves Christians yet spend more time on FB than reading their Bibles), quit with all the TV watching. They’ll be no FB, Twitter, or TV in heaven and certainly not in hell.

BTW, were do you hear about hell today? And what it takes to get there and who’s going there?

First, know that you and I are sinners. We were born in rebellion and must face this head on. If you fail to do this you will succumb to the same fate as the ancient Israelites that rebelled against the Lord in the wilderness of the Sinai and were barred from entering His rest – Heb 3:19. They wandered endlessly for they didn’t face their sin. Instead they constantly complained against God and the good things He provided which resulted in increasing rebellion and rejection of His voice. God will only tolerate this so long – Gen 6:3. God isn’t playing games with the seriousness of sin or His justice or judgment.

Heb 3 and 4 paint a picture of how the deceitfulness of sin will yield a hard heart which provokes the Lord. Those that attend church today for the most part go through an form of ritual worship. Sing some songs, a general pastoral prayer, offering, watered-down sermon, no altar call and then much talk of worldly matters and then out. How repugnant! The Lord despises ritualistic worship where fake worship is on display – Isa 1:15; Amos 5:21; Mal 1:6-14 . These things will yield a progressively hardened heart if truth isn’t proclaimed (yes even if it hurts).

Folks, if we would get serious about our sin, hear about it from the pulpits across our land, know who God is and the extreme sacrifice Jesus went through for us, we would be on our faces repenting of our sin the entire service time. Godly sorrow for our sin before a Holy God would result in much mourning and weeping.

But where do you hear such things? Certainly not from many contemporary Christian pulpits that spew out lies and superficial messages designed to please and not offend. Oh yeah, some practice fancy expository preaching thinking their a-ok but they are not. If people aren’t being taught the reality of their sin, the deceitfulness of sin and what do about it, pastors and teachers you are not in the will of God.

“…in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” – 2 Cor 2:11 (NASB)

Friends, there’s a spiritual war going on for your soul!! We must know the enemies tactics (2 Cor 2:11) and know what to do about it. Hey Christian churches… this is one of your missions – prepare your flocks. Get them ready. Teach them about spiritual warfare. Teach them about the deceitfulness of sin. The seriousness of repentance. Teach them how to Biblically listen for the Lord so as to obey Him instead of hardening their hearts against Him. This is no drill!!

We walk by faith and not by sight – 2 Cor 5:7. It’s time to stop pretending you’re a Christian and get ready to actually be one. Get right with God. Put all distractions aside, get out your Bible and seek Almighty God. Please hear His voice as written in His word. Do not harden your heart by failing to do these things. We have many, many examples written for us in scripture and as such will have no excuses when we stand before a Holy, Mighty and Righteous God. Remember, He doesn’t play with His word, doesn’t teach an entertaining and non-offending Gospel. You really can’t know the kindness of God without knowing the severity of God – Rom 11:22. If you are not being taught the things described herein today at your church, find out why. If they fail to give you a Biblical answer and only make excuses, get out of there FAST! Find a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church that teaches the full council of God.

Get right with God people, He’s coming soon. The signs of His return are all over and converging fast. Read your Bible and know if what I’m saying here is true. Be a Berean – Acts 17:11. Prove me right or wrong but get into regular daily routine of Bible reading and seeking God while He yet may be found – Isa 55:6. Amen!

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” -1 Pet 5:8 (KJV)

“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” -2 Peter 3:11-12
