Rejoice and Pray Without Ceasing — Give Thanks Always

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus..” -1 Th 5:16-18 (NASB)

Sometimes we get so busy in our daily lives that we forget about praying and thanking God for what He has given us. Yes, even in the smallest and insignificant things. Sometimes even rejoicing seems like a distant response to our many times trivial situation/s. As the verse echos above we are to do these three things because this is the will of God concerning us.

My wife and I were talking the other day and she recounted a recent statement made by someone just reflecting on how blessed they were in the mundane activity of just folding clothes. Yes, that’s right, folding clothes. But when you think about it, this person was correct. They didn’t complain nor gripe about their circumstance or position, they just gave thanks to God for His provision in this menial task. Now that friends is real rejoicing and thanksgiving.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” -Acts 4:12 (ESV)

So how many of us will or have done likewise? We can be very good at complaining about work or lack thereof. We can whine because of our situation – not enough money or this or that. We can grumble cause we don’t have what the neighbors do or friends have. My goodness, we can be so proficient at protesting that we lose sight of our our blessed position in life. Granted there have been several disasters recently that have left people flat without anything but do they still have nothing? Don’t they have life, breath and the Lord?

There appears that we in America have much to be thankful for, yet many of the “regular” things we have or have access to fall under our thankful and rejoicing in the Lord radar screen. Why is this? Has greed or worldly things captured our only focus and attention? Have these things supplanted Almighty God and His will for our lives? Remember, it’s His will that we do rejoice, pray and give thanks always.

And speaking of praying always… Who does this today? Who prays without ceasing? Who prays once, twice or more per day? Do you? Without ceasing means all the time. You can pray while working, shopping, walking, riding in a car, etc. The main focus is to keep praying and this can become regular once you set your mind to it. It almost becomes natural for it becomes part of your being. We don’t always have to be on our knees, behind closed doors or in church. We can be almost anywhere, spending time with the Lord in communicative prayer.

Rejoice in the Lord today friends, rejoice that you know His name and He yours. Rejoice of the free gift of salvation and your eternal destination with Jesus Christ our Lord. Rejoice that your name is written (and hopefully it is) in the Lamb’s Book of Life. And always without fail, give Him thanks for all you have even if it seems inconsequential or trivial. If today finds you without a Savior, without knowing the Lord Jesus Christ, then I would encourage you to call upon His name and

Admit you’re a sinner and need a Savior (Rom 3:23, 6:23)

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection as paying the ultimate penalty for your sins (John 3:16)

Confess and profess your faith in Jesus Christ (Rom 10:9-13)

Seek His face today for today is the day of salvation.
